Laid Off? Welcome To Your Singleness Season!

Hey guys – Tiff here! Picture this, you receive a calendar invite from upper management about “company updates” that is being held this afternoon at 3:00PM. Not everyone in the company is scheduled to be on the call, just a couple of people including yourself, so you think nothing of it. 3:00PM hits and you log onto the conference call thinking it will just be another discussion of guideline changes as with other calls.

The call starts off and your boss says “I am afraid I have to express some news to you all. Unfortunately due to the stock market crash and the company having very little funding available, we are needing to make a reduction in staff.” At that moment you start to worry and panic, but you don’t start freaking out just yet. Then those words “Your position has been eliminated permanently” are uttered and your mind starts to slowly race…..anxiety, fear, those thoughts in your head of “what do I do now” are suddenly your main focus.

There has been a ton of layoffs lately due to the pandemic currently surrounding us. Even though this is something that is completely out of our control, it is hitting all of us mentally more than ever! Financial worries start to kick in within minutes of finding out you’ve been laid off. On top of that, if having to file for unemployment isn’t stressful enough, looking for a job within your field is HELL! If you are lucky you will find an available position immediately, however most of the time this isn’t the case.

FAILURE is typically the feeling most get after a loss of employment. ANXIETY hits our mind as we worry and have the “what if” scenarios thinking of the worst. DEPRESSION can slowly come over us as time goes on while waiting for that interview. FEAR comes and plays mind games, slowing down the process of making that next step. Ok ok.. enough of the sad stuff! Lets remember the following:

YOU ARE A BOSS. YOU ARE A BAD ASS. YOU CONTROL YOUR FUTURE.

God did not bring you this far to fail and give up! Welcome to your season of “SINGLENESS.” To reference, you are going through a whole break up except it is not with an actual person. Your ex this time is a company you are no longer with. Crazy right? Think of the last breakup you went through. Typically that time is used for finding yourself again.

If you are currently laid off, think of this as a time to focus on you! A job does not determine and control your happiness. Find your inner happiness through a hobby or just something you have always wanted to do. This is not a bump in the road, it is a PUSH to the road of your purpose! This is pushing everyone to remain humble, reevaluate their lives, let alone themselves.

Yes there are a ton of “what if’s” going on in your mind right now, wondering what is the next chapter. Well, maybe it’s time for us to write our own next journey to happiness. Remember, at the end of the day, all you have is yourself. Push yourself to stay on a schedule and get out of bed in the morning. Apply for those jobs while multitasking focusing on that project that has been put off for years. Continue to exercise regularly and keep healthy. Might as well fight till the finish right?

It is so hard to keep going despite our circumstances, however it is even harder knowing you gave up when the whole world was at your hands. You got this! We got this! Welcome to the season of singleness!

“SUCCESS IS FAILURE TURNED INSIDE OUT, THE SILVER TINT IN A CLOUD OF DOUBT. YOU CAN NEVER TELL HOW CLOSE YOU ARE, YOU MAY BE NEAR WHEN IT SEEMS A FAR. SO STICK TO THE FIGHT WHEN YOU’RE HARDEST HIT, ITS WHEN THINGS GO WRONG WHEN WE MUST NOT QUIT!”
