Life After College ðŸŽ“

Tiff here! This topic is not discussed enough – life after college. As the society teaches us, you are supposed to go to college and obtain a degree in a field where you expect to be working for the rest of your life. Sounds super simple right? Well as we all know, this can be very complicated especially right after graduating college. Majority of us are not working in our field because we have to make ends meet. Bills have to be paid, therefore there are a ton of people working in a field they did not go to school for. Waste of a degree you say? Wait, there is more! Imagine graduating college in a world full of student loan debt. No way? This is just a small portion of the reality millennials are currently facing. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!

Society tells millennials to dream big and that we can achieve anything we put our mind too, however is this really the case? Look at it this way – typically it is said in order to get ahead of the competition, one should have as many internships as possible because it shows “professional experience.” However many companies list that one should have 5 to even 10 years of real world work experience related to their field. How is a recent grad supposed to have that many years of work experience when they just graduated? There are not many jobs for recent grads and the ones that are posted, half of them are either a scam or just not legit. It is so hard to obtain a job right after college because it is so difficult to find someone to give you a chance. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!

Something else that is not talked about is the financial stress one is in after college. Majority of the world is facing student loan debt for a piece of paper via a degree, that supposedly is the key to long term success. Unfortunately, that degree is not a confirmation that one will obtain a job right after graduating, along with making a lot of money as well. Financially, a graduate is like a freshman in the real world, where they have to start over from scratch. So during that time of searching for a dream job, student loans pile up along with major bills which results in one not working in their field to make ends meet. Surprise surprise! MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!

Lastly, one topic that is on the hush hush is recent graduates mental health! Adjusting from college life to the real world is very difficult for most. While dealing with what was discussed prior, grads also are dealing with missing their friends, realizing who their true friends are, and are somewhat lonely while trying to find their true self. All this pressure combined is a lot for one person to handle mentally. Life after college is a topic that should be discussed more and honestly should be labeled as an actual life event!
